Obituary

Megan Anne McCarty Green, 51, Lexington, wife of Patrick Green, died peacefully on April 10th, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family. A native of Lexington, she was born May 14th, 1970, the daughter of John and Jill McCarty.

Megan attended Christ the King and Lexington Catholic High School and was an avid swimmer. It was during these formative years that she met the love of her life, Patrick, and friends who are now family. Many of these childhood friends rallied for Megan during these last few months, tirelessly extending prayer and support that no doubt gave Megan the unrelenting resolve to battle cancer as she did. This beautiful expression of friendship will never be forgotten by Megan's family.

Megan earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky in 1992. While at UK, Megan was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority where she made countless memories and formed lifelong friendships. After college, Megan studied design and lived in Alexandria, Virginia before returning to Lexington to join her mother and Sharri Greer at For Friends! and begin what would become a successful career in interior design. While Megan quickly blazed her own trail on the design side of the business, she and Jill perfectly complemented each other as an inseparable "dream team."  In the years since, Megan used her gift to create beautiful living spaces for countless individuals and families across the Lexington community and beyond. She was truly fulfilled by bringing to life the design visions of her clients, and found immense joy in the relationships she built along the way.

When she was not designing, Megan was cheering us all on. She was a constant cheerleader for her family, friends, and most of all the Kentucky Wildcats. Megan's radiant light made it impossible not to gravitate towards her, yielding an abundance of true, supportive, enriching, laugh-till-you-cry friendships that were a constant in her life until her final breath, and will continue to carry her legacy for the years to come. She will be greatly missed by her family and loved ones, who find peace knowing her purely kind and genuine soul touched the lives of so many on this earth and will continue to do so in eternal rest with our Lord.

Megan is survived by her adoring husband of nearly 24 years, Patrick Green, and their beloved golden retriever, Henry. She is also survived by her parents, John and Jill McCarty, her brother, Brian McCarty and his wife Katherine, nieces Mary Katherine, Sarah Jane, and Martha Lee McCarty, Cynda Adair (Tyler), Katie Doughty (Caleb), nephew Evan Green as well as extended family who knew and loved her well.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30am Wednesday, April 13th, 2022 at the Cathedral of Christ the King with Rev. Steve Roberts presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery followed by a celebration of life held at Malone’s Prime from 2:30-5:00pm.

Visitation 5-8 pm Tuesday, April 12th, 2022 in Hehman Hall at the Cathedral of Christ the King, 299 Colony Blvd.
