Obituary

Rosemary Watkins Savage, 79, of Lexington, KY, died Friday, December 25, 2020.

Rosemary was born in Cadiz, KY on July 19, 1941 to the late Jesse R. and Lois (Scott) Watkins. After graduating from Trigg County High School in 1959, she attended the University of Kentucky, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education.  After graduation, she taught elementary school in Lexington and briefly in Cambridge, MA.

After the birth of her children, Susan and Scott, Rosemary left the classroom, but was never idle.  She spent many hours volunteering her time and talents.  A member of the Lexington Junior League, she served as Horse Show Chairman in 1977 and was active in the Bodley Bullock House Garden Club.  She mentored generations of Tridelts as an advisor in several different roles, most notably rush advisor, for the Delta Rho chapter of Delta Delta Delta sorority.  A lifelong Democrat, Rosemary worked for numerous political campaigns over the years. She actively participated in Cassidy, Morton, and Henry Clay Parent Teacher Associations and enjoyed summers at the Lexington Polo Club, serving as its president.

Rosemary was the consummate hostess.  Whether an informal gathering in the back yard, or a dinner party for twenty, she thoroughly loved entertaining friends and family. Christmas was a magical time under her care, so it is fitting she died on a day she made so special.

Rosemary is survived by her children, Susan Keegan (Chris) of New Haven, CT and Scott Savage (Debbie) of Lexington. Other survivors include her beloved grandchildren, Caroline Keegan of Brooklyn, NY, Madeline Savage, Jack Savage, Matthew Browne and Caroline Browne all of Lexington; brother J. Scott Watkins of Franklin, TN; and nieces Mary Scott Senan of Seattle, WA, Virginia Watkins of Piedmont, CA, and Ashley Gold of Nashville, TN.

A memorial in her honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 29 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Cadiz, KY.
